No, not our Website!!! The wonderful world of the WWW - It started with an email late one Friday afternoon from a Brisbane based Liquidator advising our Gold Coast based Web designer had gone into Liquidation.
Anyway back to Friday 4pm
The order of events late on that Friday afternoon
On reading this panic set in, what did it mean for our website and all the hard work that we had achieved over the last 18 months. Reading on in the email, the liquidator had given me a list of three possible companies who could be hosting our website on their server on behalf of the company we had been using.
I immediately logged into our website and quickly backed up the data, then phoned the company on the top of the list luckily they were hosting ours and already had it backed up, they also offered to keep it online until they could get it sorted. Problem one solved, we still have a web page for the short term anyway.
As website "speak" and coding etc is not my field of understanding I then rang our IT genius who gave me the basics and I quote "glad we finished the install of your server 2 weeks before hand", therefore our emails would not be affected, relief. Todd then advised me of what to do next. Of course I had to learn a whole new language relating to website design, hosting and Content Management System platforms (CMS).
Apparently our site was on a custom Content Management System platform (CMS) and we would need to have it re-coded to transfer it and ensure we would never have this problem again. Learning something new all the time.
Now for the Budget.
After many quotes, meetings and demonstrations it became apparent to us we needed to change our site to either word press or Adobe Business Catalyst. A quick interactive training session and our choice was easy. As we are not programmers we needed something that was very user friendly and quick to learn.
It was Greg from Top Left Designs to our rescue, quickly transferring all our content, text, images and video, making adjustments to the code to optimise our use of the CMS and transferring our Google Analytics and Google Search Console. I am now a little bit more educated in the way of the WWW, but will definitely leave it to the experts.
One thing is for sure we are very happy in the knowledge that we now not only have our website secure and out there, we can continue to keep it up to date with ease. A big Thank you to Greg, you certainly made the whole process a lot less daunting.
I am also pleased to say we are now working on improving our site, our blog page has been completed and Greg is now hard at work on some new features for us, but I will save those for a future announcement and another blog.
We would like to take this opportunity to highly recommend Greg and his professional friendly service.
