I recently went through my photo files on my laptop and external drives to find a better way of categorizing the thousands of nature, animal and travel photos I have had the privilege of taking over the last 10 years.
My passion for photography started about 10 years ago, starting originally with a Pentax and now upgrading to my Canon camera, taking photos of anything and everything inspiring on my travels. What started off as a hobby has turned into a passion for not only photography but for travel to pass less traveled …. At the same time adding to my bucket list.
I would like to share with you a couple of photos from a recent trip to NZ in the high country camping and birding…
As my hobby evolved I started to plan my time off more around exploring the natural habitats of these magnificent creatures and as I was entering their domain, I learnt to blend into the trees and forest undergrowth (camouflage gear is great for this) and stay quiet for long periods of time to capture my lively little subject in full view. Off I went with my trusty cameras with an assortment of lenses and a backpack.
My objective was to capture as much colour, clarity and variation in the lens as possible. Some shots showed the birdlife hopscotching about the branches of a tree, some shots captured the subject mid- flight, and in other shots, stills of the mother feeding its young.
I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed sharing my photos on Instagram and receiving thanks and feedback from family, friends and complete strangers not to mention the fun of it all. My hobby has allowed me to not only explore the local area, but also plan weekend getaways and of course tick off fabulous destinations of my bucket list…
