5 ways to help motivate your team as they return to the new normal

2020 has well and truly thrown many challenges our way. It can be hard for your teams to get back into the swing of things.

There will be many new challenges for us all, in particular ensuring your office is COVID-Safe.

Have you prepared for your team to return? A thorough clean of the office, and checking that your workspaces comply with the new regulations will make your staff feel secure.  You can check these new recommendations from WorkSafe Australia, you can direct your team to download the COVIDSafe App.?

Now Back to Business

The first few weeks often consist of planning, goal setting and Isolation recovery. Some of your team may be nervous on their return. Others may be inspired, however it can often be a difficult task to keep this motivation consistent throughout the year

Here are our 5 tips to keeping your team motivated:

1. Encourage new ideas

Conduct fortnightly brainstorming sessions. Foster an environment where ideas and collaboration can flourish. Allowing your team members to think creatively enables them to do their job in a more unique, engaging way making coming to work that much more enticing.

2. Be flexible

Whenever possible offer flexibility in the workplace and give your employees the ability to improve their work-life balance. In a recent survey people who work flexibly see a noticeable improvement in their mental health.

As an employer, you can enable this by finding and creating an office environment that works best for your team. A popular solution for many employers is renting a co working desk for staff at locations closer to home. Making their journey to work easier and shorter can make a world of a difference. Additionally, taking a space in a co working office has additional benefits to the well-being of your staff. Many co working spaces now offer access to well-being facilities.  At GCBizHub we have indoor and outdoor breakaway spaces as well as a zero-gravity shiatsu massage chair for your enjoyment.

3. Be understanding

Listening and understanding will help you to build your relationship with your employees. When mistakes occur, you should never hold it against the employee, we recommend you frame the mistakes as learning experiences. Winston Churchill said:

“Success is not final; failure is not fatal.  It is the courage to continue that counts.”

4. Thank your employees

Showing gratitude in your workplace is one of the easiest, yet underrated workplace gestures. Data from studies show that the main reason for employee turnover rates is because they don't feel appreciated.

As you read this, take a moment to thank a colleague of yours for something you’re grateful for. There's no better time to start than now.

5. Celebrate successes

A great way to maintain productivity and ensure staff are motivated throughout the year is through celebrating all successes that the business achieves. If you win an award, celebrate with the team, but also remember to celebrate individual achievements. Celebrating achievements of the individual not only shows the employee they are appreciated, but also encourages them to be more engaged and motivated at work.
